Sinopsis: Miniserie de 7 episodios. Kentucky, años 60. Estuve deseando ver esta serie durante semanas hasta que terminé la que estaba viendo para centrarme en ella. Siempre me ha gustado Anya Taylor-Joy, es una actriz estupenda y en esta serie no se ha quedado atrás, ha sido magnética e interesante, se ha amoldado totalmente al personaje de Beth Harmon, su personalidad original y la ambientación de los años 60 es increíble, te mantiene en la trama. Con esta serie han hecho que un juego como es el ajedrez, sea una aventura que te llega a sorprender.
La mente de Beth es prodigiosa. El conserje del orfanato le enseñó a jugar y se dio cuenta de lo increíblemente inteligente que era, sabía estudiar las partidas, qué mover determinaría el final del juego y el tablero era lo único que podía controlar, sus movimientos eran decisiones que podían hacerla ganar o perder. Me gusta mucho que hayan mostrado de alguna forma cómo las mujeres caían en la bebida y el tabaco sin pensar en las consecuencias, de hecho, no estaba tan mal visto como ahora. Puedes ver cómo un simple juego de ajedrez puede ser la pasión de una chica joven e independiente y que puede llegar a pagar todas sus facturas y viajes.
Me gustó mucho cómo la veías mantener el control, el impulso de dejarlo todo, de ganar a pesar de creer que estaba perdida, esa fuerza que muchos podrían soñar. El ajedrez siempre ha sido un juego al que todos, alguna vez, hemos practicado y nos ha traído horas de cabeza contra nuestro contrincante pero no lo hemos visto como algo más importante que esto, en esta serie, lo muestra y te invita a reflexionar de cómo las decisiones que tomas pueden llevarte a un camino u otro, ya sean correctas o incorrectas, pueden hacer que lo pierdas todo o que ganes un mundo. La elegancia de Beth, cómo demuestra ese temple que la caracteriza y lo calculadora que es, al igual que interesada, coge algo que quiere y cuando lo ha usado, lo tira. Por una parte, es controladora y un tanto manipuladora pero mantiene a sus rivales donde ella necesita tenerlos antes de finalizar una partida, es implacable y tenaz.
Me resultó también interesante ver cómo una chica tan joven podía crear una carrera de algo tan simple como el juego y que por dentro estuviese tan rota y vacía, el ajedrez era su vida y todo lo que tenía, sus miedos hacia competir contra los rusos la abrumaban pero sus amigos la hicieron más fuerte a medida que la ayudaban a practicar, y eso es algo que siempre aprendemos de la vida: los que están a nuestro alrededor también nos enseñan. Te atrae desde su mirada hasta las respuestas cortas, esa forma tan segura de caminar y moverse, de mover las fichas del ajedrez y hacer que toda persona de la sala se voltee a mirarla. De alguna forma, esta serie muestra el empoderamiento de la mujer, su fuerza, constancia y cómo resurgir siendo la única mujer en un juego donde lo que más abunda son hombres siendo los únicos que ganan, rompiendo todas las reglas para derrotar a los mejores del mundo. Me dejó una sensación muy bonita en el cuerpo, la verdad.
Trajo consigo una reflexión delicada, atrayente y algo de lo que se habla mucho pero que la gente no suele llevar a cabo: cumple tus sueños por difíciles o imposibles que parezcan, traspasando las barreras que debas traspasar para llegar a ellos y que sean una realidad y no solo un sueño del que despertar mañana. Debido a la constancia y dedicación de Beth, el centrarse totalmente en su objetivo principal y el seguir adelante por muy difícil que resultara una partida o derrotar a un rival, mostró esta parte tan preciosa que todos los creadores debemos entender, saber y sentir. Hay sueños que se pueden cumplir. Esta serie, definitivamente, se ha convertido en una de mis favoritas y se queda guardada para cuando quiera volverla a ver, son siete capítulos intensos de aprendizaje y de conocer a un personaje elaborado y destacable, 100% recomendada. INCREÍBLE.

I wanted to watch this series for weeks until I finished the one I was watching to focuse on it. I’ve always liked Anya Taylor-Joy, she’s a great actress and in this series she hasn’t been left behind, she’s been magnetic and interesting, she’s totally fitted to Beth Harmon’s character, her original personality and the setting of the ’60s is amazing, it keeps you in the plot. With this series they have made a game like chess, an adventure that leads you to surprise.
Beth’s mind is prodigious. The orphanage janitor taught her how to play and he realized how incredibly intelligent she was, she knew how to study the different games, what to move would determine the end of the game and the board was the only thing she could control, her movements were decisions that could make her win or lose. I really like that they have shown in some way how women fell into drink and tobacco without thinking about the consequences, in fact, it wasn’t as badly seen as it is now. You can see how a simple chess game can be the passion of a young and independent girl and she can get to pay all her bills and trips thanks to it.
I really liked how you saw her stay in control, the urge to give it all up, to win despite believing she was lost, that strength that many might dream of. Chess has always been a game that we’ve all practiced and brought us head hours against our opponent but we haven’t seen it as anything more important than this, in this series, it shows it and invites you to reflect on how the decisions you make can lead you one way or another, whether correct or wrong, they can make you lose everything or win a world. Beth’s elegance, how she demonstrates that mettle that characterizes her and how calculating she is, as well as interested, takes something she wants and when she has worn it, throws it away. On the one hand, she is controlling and somewhat manipulative but keeps her rivals where she needs to have them before finishing a game, she is relentless and tenacious.
I found also interesting to see how such a young girl could create a career of something as simple as the game and the fact that she was so broken and empty inside, chess was her life and all she had, her fears of competing against the Russians overwhelmed her but her friends made her stronger as they helped her practice and that is something we always learn from life: those around us also teach us. It draws you from his gaze to the short answers, that sure way to walk and move, to move the chess pieces and make every person in the room look at her. In some ways, this series shows the empowerment of women, their strength, consistensy and how to resurface being the only woman in a game where what abounds most are men being the only ones who win, breaking all the rules to defeat the best ones in the world. It left a very nice feeling in my body, really.
It brought with it a delicate, attractive reflection and something that is talked about a lot but that people do not usually carry out: fulfill your dreams however difficult or impossible they may seem, crossing the barriers that you have to pass through to reach them and become a reality and not just a dream from which to awaken tomorrow. Due to Beth’s constancy and dedication, focusing entirely on her main goal and moving forward as difficult as it would be a game or defeating a rival, showed this precious part that all creators must understand, know and feel. There are dreams that can be fulfilled. This series has definitely become one of my favorites and is saved for when I want to watch it again, its seven intense chapters of learning and meeting an elaborate and remarkable character, 100% recommended. AMAZING.
