Llevé semanas queriendo ver esta película porque, desde que salió anunciada en la portada de Netflix, no pude dejarla de lado para poder verla por fin. Lo primero que me pasó por la cabeza fue el aspecto siniestro que tiene tanto la historia, como lo que ocurre con la familia, la ambientación, el segundo personaje y todo el pasado que tiene que ver con el padre de Lauren Monroe, la protagonista. La música acompaña todo el tiempo, la historia se desarrolla con buen ritmo, suspense, te preguntas qué puede estar ocurriendo al menos durante un rato pero, pude sospechar desde el principio que Morgan Warner no era quién decía ser, debes estar atento a las señales de un buen mentiroso 😉
La cuestión es que, el padre de Lauren muere supuestamente de un infarto y digo supuestamente por algo en concreto que ya descubriréis si queréis verla, le deja de herencia a alguien que ha vivido encerrado durante mucho tiempo en el sótano de la casa de la familia de la joven, nadie parecía saber nada pero ella empieza a indagar conforme se comunica con Morgan, al principio, algo recelosa. Descubre muchas cosas de su padre que ella no conocía ni esperaba, se asustó, no supo que hacer pero tomó una decisión que creyó correcta pero que acabó siendo la peor de todas, Obviamente, no os lo voy a contar, jeje.
Aunque sea una película, podría ser una situación totalmente real donde tu familia te deja como herencia algo que no sabes que estaba ahí y que no sabrías cómo manejar o controlar, te muestra muy bien un aspecto humano muy común que es la compasión por alguien que se ve está sufriendo, encadenado como si fuera un perro en una habitación de cuatro paredes donde no ha tenido contacto humano en 30 años. Se te presentan innumerables preguntas, ¿cómo puede alguien hacer algo así?, ¿qué harías tú?, ¿qué sería lo más correcto? Te acaba mostrando que hay personas que mienten y manipulan para conseguir lo que quieren y justo a esas no debes mostrarles compasión tan fácilmente. Entonces comprendes algo: «si tu padre ha encerrado a ese hombre ahí durante tanto tiempo, será por algo, ¿no crees?». Y sí, la compasión puede ser peligrosa.
Un aspecto de Lauren que todos tenemos es inocencia, dejarnos llevar por la manipulación, tratar lo que otro dice como algo real y verdadero. Está claro que comprueba toda la información y quiere estar segura de tomar la decisión correcta pero, está muy visto que no se puede confiar en nadie a estas alturas. Nos deja ver también esta película cómo alguien puede ser capaz de manipular tu propia mente con palabras amables, cara de corderito degollado mientras juega el papel de víctima y lo que pretende es algo muy diferente a lo que en realidad te muestra. Típico psicópata, sociópata o narcisista. Es increíble el teatro que se monta el personaje para hacer creer a Lauren que es otra persona, que no ha hecho nada, que es inocente, cambiando su papel por el de su padre y ella, como cualquier otro hubiera hecho, colecta alguna información y ve que dice la verdad. Pero, tan solo la que él quería. E aquí la manipulación.
A mí, personalmente, me ha gustado mucho. Es una película siniestra, algo intimidante y atroz en depende qué aspectos pero creo que vale la pena verla y disfrutarla de principio a fin. Lily Collins y Simon Pegg hacen un papel increíble. 100% recomendable. Os dejo el tráiler en inglés subtitulado al español para que decidáis si verla o no 🙂

I’ve been wanting to watch this movie for weeks because, ever since it was announced on the Netflix cover, I couldn’t put it aside so I could finally watch it. The first thing that crossed my mind was the sinister aspect of the story, as well as what happens to the family, the setting, the second character and the whole past that has to do with Lauren Monroe’s father, the protagonist. The music accompanies all the time, the story unfolds with good rhythm, suspense, you wonder what may be happening for at least a while but, I was able to suspect from the beginning that Morgan Warner was not who he claimed to be, you must be attentive to the signs of a good liar 😉
The point is, Lauren’s father is supposed to die of a heart attack and I say supposedly for something specific that you’ll find out if you want to watch the movie, he leaves inheritance to someone who’s lived locked up for a long time in the basement of the young woman’s family home, no one seemed to know anything but she starts digging as she communicates with Morgan, at first, something suspicious. She discovers a lot of things about her father that she didn’t know or expected, she got scared, she didn’t know what to do but made a decision she thought was right but ended up being the worst of them all, obviously, I’m not going to tell you, hehe.
Even if it’s a movie, it could be a totally real situation where your family leaves you as an inheritance something you don’t know was there and that you wouldn’t know how to handle or control, it shows you very well a very common human aspect that is compassion for someone you see is suffering, chained up like a dog in a four-walled room where he hasn’t had human contact in 30 years. There are countless questions presented to you, how can anyone do something like that, what would you do, what would be the right thing to do? It ends up showing you that there are people who lie and manipulate to get what they want and just those you shouldn’t show them compassion so easily. Then you understand something: «If your father has locked that man in there for so long, it’ll be for something, don’t you think?» And yes, compassion can be dangerous.
One aspect of Lauren that we all have is innocence, letting ourselves be carried away by manipulation, treating what another says as something real and true. It is clear that you check all the information and want to be sure to make the right decision but, it is very clear that no one can be trusted at this point. Let us also see this film how someone may be able to manipulate your own mind with kind words, slit lamb face while playing the role of victim and what they pretend is something very different from what it actually shows you. Typical psychopath, sociopath or narcissist. It’s amazing the theater that the character rides to make Lauren believe that he’s someone else, who has done nothing, who is innocent, swapning his role for her father and she like anyone else would have believe him, collects some information and sees that he’s telling the truth. But, just the one he wanted. And here’s the manipulation.
I personally liked it very much. It’s a sinister, somewhat intimidating and atrocious film that depends on what aspects but I think it’s worth watching and enjoying from start to finish.
