Comentando libro «The Hunger Games» – Suzanne Collins

En una visión del futuro cercano, doce chicos y doce chicas son presionados a aparecer en un show de televisión llamado «Los Juegos del Hambre». Hay solo una regla: mata o muere.

Cuando Katniss Everdeen de 16 años da un paso hacia adelante para coger el puesto de su hermana pequeña en los juegos, ella lo ve como una sentencia de muerte. Pero Katniss ha estado cerca de la muerte antes. Para ella, sobrevivir es su segunda naturaleza.

Vi las películas hace mucho en el cine y me gustaron bastante, así que, siempre quise leerme los libros, sobre todo en inglés. Me los compré en Edimburgo y leí el primero en 8 días, fue tan absorbente y me atraía tanto la historia que no pude sino fundirme en esas 454 páginas y saborearlas todas casi del tirón. Suzanne Collins tiene una forma muy natural y sencilla de escribir que me ha gustado mucho, la lectura ha sido muy llevadera y no me ha costado nada empezar, seguir y terminar el libro sin problemas, devorándolo rápidamente.

Me ha encantado que los diálogos y las escenas fueran sacadas del libro, algunas sí fueron añadidas y otras quizá no salieron de la misma forma en la película, pero me ha dejado muy buen sabor de boca el que fuera totalmente fiel al libro, no hay cosa que más me moleste que no sea así. La escritora trata de manifestar muy bien la personalidad de Katniss Everdeen, su forma de pensar y fingir la repulsión que le provoca tener que formar parte de los Juegos del Hambre y de que existan. Es luchadora, es sensible aunque no lo parezca y hace todo lo posible para sobrevivir junto a Peeta Mellark, quién está enamorado de ella desde que la vio en el colegio por primera vez y que sabe cómo encandilar al público para obtener más patrocinadores. Peeta es hijo de panaderos, prácticamente no tiene ni idea de supervivencia, pero junto a Katniss empieza a sentirse a salvo y luchan codo con codo para salir de los juegos vivos.

Creo que el punto donde Suzanne Collins incluye elementos románticos entre ambos personajes (que, por cierto, hay muchos más en el libro que en las películas), es muy acertado porque atrae mucho más al público, quizá más juvenil, le da un toque dulce dentro de toda esa violencia que nos muestra desde que empieza el libro, esa pobreza existente en el distrito 12 y lo que deben hacer muchas personas para sobrevivir, mientras los ricos forman parte de una élite que pretende mantenerlos sumisos y obligarlos a matarse entre sí en unos juegos que solo sirven para que la gente se sienta aún más desgraciada. La historia tiene muy buenos componentes y es muy potente, a mí parecer, sobre todo esta primera entrega desde el libro a la película.

Las escenas de acción están muy logradas, diría que en ambos formatos, Katniss es muy buena con el arco y creo que la escritora nunca nos lo ha hecho dudar ni por un instante. Ese ambiente que podría ser, incluso, futurista y muy creativo, por supuesto, te adentra en la historia, te hace seguirla y de verdad te hace creer que tú misma estás en ella, tiene unas descripciones no muy largas, son más bien precisas y hacen que te introduzcas y te lo imagines muy bien. Es algo que se agradece porque hay escritores que son muy densos como J.R.R Tolkien donde pierdes entre tanta descripción, minuciosidad y detalle; tampoco se queda corta, sino que, te da la información precisa para que sigas la lectura.

Recomiendo este libro al 100% y espero seguir con los que me quedan de los «Juegos del Hambre» muy pronto 😉

I saw the movies a long time ago in the cinema and I liked them a lot, so I always wanted to read the books, especially in English. I bought them in Edinburgh and read the first one in 8 days, it was so absorbing and I was so attracted to the story that I couldn’t help but merge into those 454 pages and savor them all almost in a shot. Suzanne Collins has a very natural and simple way of writing that I liked very much, the reading has been very bearable and it has not cost me anything to start, continue and finish the book without problems, devouring it quickly.

I loved that the dialogues and scenes were taken from the book, some were added and others maybe did not come out in the same way in the film, but it has left a very good taste in my mouth that was totally faithful to the book, there is nothing that bothers me the most that it is not so. The writer tries to manifest very well the personality of Katniss Everdeen, her way of thinking and pretending the repulsion that causes her to have to be part of the Hunger Games and that they exist. She is a fighter, she is sensitive even if she doesn’t seem so and she does everything she can to survive alongside Peeta Mellark, who has been in love with her since he first saw her at school and who knows how to dazzle the public to get more sponsors. Peeta is the son of bakers, he has virtually no idea of survival, but together with Katniss he begins to feel safe and they fight side by side to get out of the games alive.

I think the point where Suzanne Collins includes romantic elements between both characters (which, by the way, there are many more in the book than in the movies), is very successful because it attracts much more to the audience, maybe more youthful, it gives it a sweet touch within all that violence that it shows us since the beginning of the book. that existing poverty in the 12th district and what many people must do to survive, while the rich are part of an elite that seeks to keep them submissed and force them to kill each other in games that only serve to make people feel even more miserable. The story has very good components and is very powerfu from the first book to the film.

The action scenes are very accomplished, I would say that in both formats, Katniss is very good with the bow and I think the writer has never made us doubt it for a moment. That environment that could even be futuristic and very creative, of course, takes you into the story, makes you follow it and really makes you believe that you are in it, it has not very long descriptions, they are rather precise and make you enter and imagine it very well. It is something that is appreciated because there are writers who are very hard like J.R.R Tolkien where you lose between so much description, thoroughness and detail; it does not fall short either, but gives you the precise information to follow the reading.

I recommend this book 100% and hope to stick with the ones I have pendent from the «Hunger Games» very soon 😉
