El escalofriante caso de una joven en apariencia insignificante que se transformó en un ser de poderes anormales, sembrando el terror en su ciudad. Con pulso mágico para mantener la tensión a lo largo de todo el libro, Stephen King narra la atormentada adolescencia de Carrie, y nos envuelve en una atmósfera sobrecogedora cuando la muchacha realiza una serie de descubrimientos hasta llegar al terrible momento de la venganza. Esta novela fue llevada al cine y obtuvo un inmenso éxito de público y de crítica.
Llevaba tiempo escuchando comentarios sobre «Carrie» desde series a películas, a veces, hacen alusiones interesantes sobre ello y yo aún no tenía ni idea de qué iba la historia o por qué daban esa importancia a un libro de esta clase. Así que, no pude más y me lancé, quería leerlo. Me habían comentado ya que era bastante fuerte y duro y que me impactaría bastante. La verdad es que, lo que más me sorprendió fue que con este libro, Stephen King llegara a ser quién es ahora, con cada instante contado aquí y con el personaje tan trastornado de Carrie. Me sentí orgullosa de haber leído el primer libro que escribió Stephen King en 1974, estaba impresionada.
He de decir que no había leído un libro tan grotesco como este, es cierto que tiene muchas escenas de sangre, violencia, fanatismo religioso y venganza. Pero creo que, en esta historia, lo que realmente importa y hay que prestar más atención es a Carrie y a las terribles consecuencias que le acarrearon tener una madre que lo veía todo como un pecado y a las personas como pecadoras, restringiendo como pudo la libertad de su hija; además del bullying que recibía Carrie en el colegio, le hacían bromas muy pesadas, crueles y capaces de destrozar cualquier mente por dentro.
Stephen King nos adentra en su infancia y adolescencia, en qué tipo de familia se crió y cómo se desarrolló su ambiente y sus poderes telecinéticos. Nos muestra a Carrie como una niña maltratada a la que le han enseñado que el sexo es pecado, que no le han explicado qué es menstruar y a la que no le han dejado nunca ir a un baile del colegio porque llevar un vestido es ser una fulana y las fulanas todo el mundo sabe que son pecadoras. Carrie reprime su rabia, agacha siempre la cabeza y hace todo lo que su madre le dice, deja que sus compañeros de clase hagan lo que quieran con ella aunque eso signifique la mayor humillación de todas. Ella observa a su alrededor desde lejos, haciendo que sillas o mesas salgan volando con solo dejarse llevar, o que un montón de piedras caigan encima de la casa donde vive con su madre. Carrie ha sido una niña con problemas, incontrolables, siempre provenientes del exterior, vivía atemorizada por otros y sentía, muchas veces, que no podía respirar.
He tenido la sensación de que este libro, ha acercado a muchos a conocer qué es realmente el bullying, la crueldad en otros y cómo humillar puede convertirse en un juego para algunos, mientras que para los afectados es un infierno. En esta historia se puede ver cómo una joven inocente y a la que nadie ve, se convierte en una bomba a punto de estallar y a la que, la última broma la afecta tanto, que es capaz de arrasar una un pueblo entero y matar a tantos como pueda por hacerle daño. Es algo de lo que en ese pueblo terminan hablando durante años, de hecho, escriben libros sobre ello y se documentan años después, analizando más a fondo los poderes de Carrie y cómo fue su vida antes de destrozar el pueblo donde creció.
Stephen King nos muestra que reprimir emociones, en definitiva, no es nada bueno. Carrie lo sabe. Ese último baile al que asiste lo demuestra. Quería permitirse a ella misma divertirse un poco, olvidar su vida por unas horas, parecerse a las demás chicas del colegio y dejarse llevar, pero esa ilusión se desvaneció en cuanto la broma más cruel y vil de todas, tuvo lugar. A pesar de lo macabro de la situación y la historia tan dura que nos muestra el autor sobre este personaje, me ha atraído mucho, me ha mantenido en la historia, queriendo saber más en todo momento, me ha hecho pensar en esas circunstancias por las que muchos hemos pasado donde hemos reprimido emociones por cosas horribles que nos han hecho y hemos tenido que reventar para sentirnos mejor. He sentido esa presión como la sintió Carrie, la he podido ver atada de pies y manos, sin vida propia, guiada por una madre fanática de la religión que no entiende qué es responsabilizarse de un adolescente que está creciendo y necesita responderse a preguntas, descubrirse y saber quién es.
Que Stephen King eligiera esta tema, unos personajes tan profundos e intensos como estos y una historia tan macabra para empezar una carrera como escritor, es lo que realmente, me ha dejado con la boca abierta al terminar de leerlo, de hecho, no me podía creer el final. Me gustó cómo te adentraba en el mundo de Carrie, de su desesperanza, su agotamiento e inocencia, de la madre loca que no podía comprender ni aunque quisiera y esas compañeras de clase que eran, más bien, demonios. Transmitió muy bien el mensaje, perfiló estupendamente a los personajes y llevó esta historia a la pantalla, tuvo muy buenas críticas (sobre todo la primera) y un éxito sorprendente, le admiro por ello, es y siempre será un gran escritor.

I had been listening some comments about «Carrie» from series to movies, sometimes they make interesting allusions about it and I still had no idea what the story was about or why they gave that importance to a book of this kind. So, I couldn’t take it anymore and I jumped in, I wanted to read it. I had already been told that it was quite strong and hard and that I would be quite impacted. The truth is, what surprised me the most was that with this book, Stephen King became who he is now, with an instant told here and with the deranged character of Carrie. I was proud to have read the first book that Stephen King wrote in 1974, I was really impressed.
I have to say that I had not read a book as grotesque as this, it is true that it has many scenes of blood, violence, religious fanaticism and revenge. But I think that, in this story, what really matters and you have to pay more attention to is Carrie and the terrible consequences of having a mother who saw everyone as a sinner and people as sinners. restricting as she could the freedom of her daughter; In addition to the bullying that Carrie received at school, they made very heavy jokes, cruel and capable of destroying any mind inside.
Stephen King takes us into her childhood and adolescence, what kind of family she grew up in, and how her environment and telekinetic powers developed. It shows us Carrie as an abused girl who has been taught that sex is sin, that they have not explained what menstruation is and who has never been allowed to go to a school dance because wearing a dress is being a bitch and everyone knows they are sinners, too. Carrie represses her rage, always bows her head and does everything her mother tells her, lets her classmates do what they want with her even if it means the greatest humiliation of all. She watches around from afar, causing chairs or tables to fly out just by letting go, or a pile of stones falling on top of the house where she lives with her mother. Carrie has been a child with problems, uncontrollable, always coming from the outside, lived in fear of others and felt, many times, that she could not breathe.
I have had the feeling that this book has brought many closer to know what bullying really is, cruelty in others and how humiliating can become a game for some, while for those affected it is hell. In this story you can see how an innocent young woman who no one sees, becomes a bomb about to explode and who, the last joke affects her so much, that she is able to raze an entire town and kill as many as she can for harming her. It’s something they end up talking about in that village for years, in fact, they write books about it and document it years later, further analyzing Carrie’s powers and what her life was like before tearing apart the town where she grew up.
Stephen King shows us that suppressing emotions, in short, is not good. Carrie knows this. That last dance she attends proves it. She wanted to allow herself to have a little fun, forget her life for a few hours, look like the other girls in school and let herself go, but that illusion vanished as soon as the cruelest and vilest joke of all took place. Despite the macabre situation and the hard story that the author shows us about this character, it has attracted me a lot, it has kept me in the story, wanting to know more at all times, it has made me think about those circumstances that many of us have gone through where we have repressed emotions for horrible things that have been done to us and we have had to burst to feel better. I have felt that pressure as Carrie felt it, I have been able to see her tied hand and foot, without a life of her own, guided by a fanatical mother of religion who does not understand what it is to take responsibility for a teenager who is growing up and needs to answer questions, discover herself and know who she is.
That Stephen King chose this subject, characters as deep and intense as these ones and a story so macabre to start a career as a writer, is what really, has left me with my mouth open when I finish reading it, in fact, I could not believe the end. I liked how he took you into Carrie’s world, her hopelessness, her exhaustion and innocence, the crazy mother I couldn’t understand even if I wanted to and those classmates who were, rather, demons. He conveyed the message very well, he profiled the characters beautifully and brought this story to the screen, he had very good reviews (especially the first one) and a surprising success, I admire him for it, he is and always will be a great writer.
