Una controvertida banda de rock con vínculos con el ocultismo y los maestros que trabajan con ellos intentan mantener unida la dinámica familiar de la costa oeste en medio del caos de la industria cuando un secreto inquietante del cantante y una joven groupie llega a su puerta.
Hace un tiempo que tenía esta serie pendiente. De momento, solo tiene una temporada de ocho episodios, no tengo ni idea de si harán más pero me ha gustado. La principal razón por la que quería verla ha sido porque Andy Biersack cantante de «Black Veil Brides» es el personaje principal de la trama protagonizando a Johnny Davis, a mi parecer, más bien de lo que esperaba y con esa voz que no decepciona jamás. Es una de las bandas que aprecio y es un cantante que siempre está cerca de sus fans, escribe sus canciones desde su verdad y lo siente tanto que te llega a ti también, así que sí, no podía perdérmela.
Esta serie nos abre las puertas a cómo es la industria musical, en este caso, alrededor del rock. Nos enseña un poco los problemas que van surgiendo dentro de una banda, la conexión con los fans, la creación de las letras, las pérdidas, los constantes sacrificios, las uniones y rupturas que se producen entre ellos, los conciertos, los errores cometidos y los remordimientos. El principal grupo de rock que se muestra es «The Retlentless», el cantante es Johnny Davis, el cual, está pasando algunas dificultades con su pareja, tratando de mantener unida a su banda, enmendando errores cometidos con una joven de 18 años a la que dejó embarazada mientras trata de averiguar si es el padre o no, cómo consigue crear uno de los mejores álbumes de su carrera gracias a sentir su dolor y plasmarlo en las letras de las canciones y tratando de solucionar las cosas con su prometida, dado que, tuvo una aventura con uno de los miembros del grupo: Lily Mayflower.
Nos introduce a muchos personajes, sobre todo, los de las compañías discográficas, cómo funcionan los negocios entre ellos y cómo llevan a bandas a lo más alto para que triunfen, sorprendente. Te das cuenta de lo apasionados que estaban antes de empezar con el trabajo pesado y continuo, cómo les gustaba y sentían la música y lo poco que lo hacen en ese momento, cansados de ser necesitados, de estar contestando el teléfono a todas horas para resolver problemas de los demás y tratando de que todo encaje en sus horarios. Las historias de cada uno de los personajes son bastante crudas, interesantes y, sobre todo, reales. Diría que no te muestra solo la parte buena en la que un grupo triunfa, viaja por todo el mundo y tiene dinero, sino también las partes feas, de las que nadie quiere hablar, esas que son complicadas y a muchos no les dejarían dormir por las noches, esos remordimientos que carcomen y el tratar de volver a empezar.
Muestra muy bien durante el transcurso de los episodios cómo funciona una banda, las políticas internas y qué significa el echar a alguien del grupo por una decisión tomada que nada tiene que ver con nada, simplemente, tiene que ocurrir. Pasan por procesos de chantaje tanto emocional como económico para comprar su silencio, tratan de esconderse detrás de las cámaras, no explican lo que ocurre porque deben preocuparse por la imagen de la banda, deben saber cómo comportarse fuera para que no les afecte dentro. Nos deja echar un vistazo largo y amplio a lo que las drogas pueden interferir de forma negativa y tóxica a las relaciones, cómo pueden hacer que se cometen errores de los que no se puede volver atrás, cómo causan dolor y pérdida. Deja claros muchos puntos y perspectivas que no sueles ver en otras series, no de una forma violenta o fuera de contexto, sino todo lo contrario, suave y con buen ritmo, creo que sale muy buen y sigue un buen proceso.
Me han gustado varios personajes, pero los que elegiría serían Johnny Faust (Andy Biersack), Lily Mayflower (Jesse Sullivan), Vic Lakota (Booboo Stewart), Elias (Mark Boone Junior), Maya Drea de Matteo) y la banda «The Flux», diría algunos más pero para mí estos han sido los más interesantes. La serie la recomendaría en un 70%, es entretenida y si te gusta el rock o el heavy, puede que hasta te apasione y hagas algún que otro headbanging, para los que no les guste este tipo de música, puede que tampoco os guste el contenido. It’s been a while since I had this series pending. At the moment, it only has one season of eight episodes, I have no idea if they will do more but I liked it. The main reason I wanted to see it has been because Andy Biersack singer of «Black Veil Brides» is the main character of the plot starring Johnny Faust, in my opinion, better than I expected and with that voice that never disappoints. It’s one of the bands I appreciate and it’s a singer who is always close to his fans, writes his songs from his truth and feels it so much that it comes to you too, so yes, I couldn’t miss it.
This series opens the doors to what the music industry is like, in this case, around rock. It teaches us a little about the problems that arise within a band, the connection with the fans, the creation of the lyrics, the losses, the constant sacrifices, the unions and ruptures that occur between them, the concerts, the mistakes made and the regrets. The main rock group shown is «The Retlentless», the singer is Johnny Faust, who is going through some difficulties with his partner, trying to keep his band together, correcting mistakes made with an 18-year-old girl who got pregnant while trying to figure out if he is the father or not, how he manages to create one of the best albums of his career thanks to feeling his pain and canalizing it into the lyrics of the songs and trying to solve things with his fiancée, given that he had an affair with one of the members of the band: Lily Mayflower.
It introduces us to many characters, especially those of record companies, how business works with each other and how they take bands to the top to succeed, surprising. You realize how passionate they were before they started with the drudgery and continuous work, how they liked and felt music and how little they feel it at that moment, tired of being needed, to be answering the phone at all hours to solve problems of others and trying to make everything fit into their schedules. The stories of each of the characters are quite raw, interesting and, above all, real. I would say that it doesn’t just show you the good part where a band succeeds, travels around the world and has money, but also the ugly parts, which nobody wants to talk about, those that are complicated and many would not be allowed to sleep at night, those regrets that consume them away and trying to start over.
It shows very well during the course of the episodes how a band works, the internal policies and what it means to kick someone out of the band for a decision made that has nothing to do with anything, it just has to happen. They go through processes of both emotional and economic blackmail to buy their silence, they try to hide behind the cameras, they do not explain what happens because they must worry about the image of the band, they must know how to behave outside so that it does not affect them inside. It lets us take a long, broad look at how drugs can negatively and intoxically interfere with relationships, how they can cause mistakes to be made that you can’t turn back from, how they cause pain and loss. It makes clear many points and perspectives that you do not usually see in other series, not in a violent way or out of context, but quite the opposite, soft and with a good rhythm, I think it comes out very well and follows a good process.
I liked several characters, but the ones I would choose would be Johnny Faust (Andy Biersack), Lily Mayflower (Jesse Sullivan), Vic Lakota (Booboo Stewart), Elias (Mark Boone Junior), Maya (Drea de Matteo) and the band «The Flux», I would say some more but for me these have been the most interesting ones. I recommend it a 70%, it is entertaining and if you like rock or heavy, you may even be passionate and do some headbanging, for those who do not like this type of music, you may not like the content either. In the Spanish version, I left the «Paradise City» trailer in English, a song from «The Retlentless», another song from «The Flux» and one more from «Black Veil Brides» where you can see Andy Biersack singing.
