Resume: «Surronded by Idiots» in his simple yet ground-breaking method for assessing everyone we communicate with based on four personality types: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. From body language to conflict handling, this entertaining read will give you all the tools you need to understand and influence those around you-in an out of the office-and ensure the idiot out there isn’t you! (from back of the book)
This book is quite curious, until today even reading it I don’t know how to describe it completely. I was looking for something where I can learn about social interactions, body language and obviously, I like Sociology so I thought this would be a great book. What it surprises me was that I saw myself submerged in lots of Green – Blue colours where I’ve felt confused. I don’t say that’s not interesting because it’s the basis of this book but probably, the writer could give another perspective more close than this one (all of this in my opinion, I don’t say he doesn’t write or investigate well).
The things I really found interesting were all body language issue, how people are perceived in society, how we communicate and how following your guts is always a key to know someone and leave if you have to. That’s would be more atractive to reading if the writer doesn’t include the four types of personality and give another to understand his point. The thing is it confuse more than the begining, so I think I learned a lot from it but in certain pieces from the book, in others you get confused in the different personalities, sometimes.
I think Thomas Erikson writes really good, in fact, it’s really easy to read him (apart of the personalities issue), this book got a international bestseller so I consider that this depend of your interests when you decide to buy it. I did it because the idea of understand better the human behavior attracted me a lot and obviously, the title. One of the points I really loved is when he explains why we’re misunderstood and have conflicts with others, how you get the lies of others arround you and get to understand that the bad behavior is the problem in the interaction not the person itself.
For people who like Sociology, for example, even Psychology, could be a good read, it’s entertaining and interesting, sometimes a rollercaster. I recommend it a 70%, I just liked it not like adore it or put it between my favorites, it’s one which I gonna read again just for the important parts or get information. I leave you here a short video where you can see what this book is all about and you decide if read or not wotth it for you:
